Tarja Halonen acted as the 11th President of the Republic of Finland and Finland’s first female head of state from 2000 to 2012.
President Halonen acceded office on 1 of March 2000, and was re-elected 2006.
The term of office of President of the Republic Tarja Halonen ended on 1 March 2012. Thereafter President Halonen will be occupied in international positions of trust in accordance with her earlier commitments. An office has been set up for President Halonen in Hakaniemi in Helsinki for managing her future duties.
